This documentary abstracted traditional visuals by utilizing footage from drone, wearable, and 360 camera devices. Using these devices on land, sea, and air respectively mimicked the movement of the water fowl known as a double-crested cormorant. These visuals played while an interview with Friedrich St Florian, the architect of the Providence Place Mall, narrated. By mimicking how a cormorant would interact with his creation, the audience is given a new appreciation for a birds’ eye view.

What happens, exactly, when artists can no longer afford the location that they themselves created the value of? Who was there before those artists in the first place? What’s the best use of a building as a crossroads of public and private use?

Beauty in the Backstreets
a live documentary
This project debuted at PVDFest and was a first person account of housing instability and triumph over a ten year period of self documentation by artist DeeDee Brown. Beauty in the Backstreet went beyond traditional documentary to exist as a ‘live’ documentary. While interviews and footage typical of a documentary played on screen, a concert played throughout as its score. To exist beyond the event itself, it was streamed live and recorded in 360 video.
